Both the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach announced the further postponement of their previously announced Container Excess Dwell fees until at least January 10th 2022. While the number of long dwelling containers has declined it’s important to remember that there’s still a significant backlog of vessels awaiting a berth and the backlog is not expected to subside in the near future. As long as containers continue to be evacuated from terminals at both ports at sufficient velocity we anticipate the POLA-LB fees to be further postponed.
However, as previously announced SSA Terminals began implementing a temporary container storage charge in December at all of the facilities at US West Coast Ports
Long Beach – Pier A
Oakland – Oakland International Container Terminal
Seattle – Terminals 5, 18 & 30
The fee structure after 5 days “free time” is as follows:
- USD 50 per day for days 1-5 after free time expires
- USD 75 per day for days 6-10 after free time expires
- USD 100 per day for days 11-15 after free time expires
- USD 150 per day for day 16+ after free time expires
Marine Terminal Operators International Transport Services (ITS), Long Beach and Total Terminals Inc (TTI), Long Beach both announced they will implement their own Extended on terminal storage fees effective January 10th, 2022. Details are as follows:
ITS, Long Beach
The fee structure after 5 days “free time” is as follows:
- USD 48 per day for days 1-5 after free time expires
- USD 72 per day for days 6-10 after free time expires
- USD 96 per day for days 11-15 after free time expires
- USD 165 per day for day 16+ after free time expires
TTI Long Beach
The fee structure after 8 days “free time“ is as follows;
- USD 100 per day for days 9 – 14
- USD 150 per day for all days thereafter
The above fees are applicable over and above any container demurrage charges that are assessed based on your carriers tariffs and will need to be settled before containers are released by the respective Marine Terminal Operator and ocean carrier.
In view of the additional administrative burden these new fees place on our operations and the need to ensure payments are effected to gain cargo release, we reserve the right to assess an administrative fee to cover the additional workload placed on us.
